Anaerobic Digester Covers

WHAT IS ANAEROBIC DIGESTION?

Anaerobic digestion of wastewater is a biological process in which microorganisms break down organic matter in wastewater (like sewage sludge or high-strength industrial effluent) in a sealed, oxygen-free environment called a digester or reactor. This process is a key part of modern wastewater treatment, as it stabilizes the waste, reduces its volume, and, crucially, generates biogas, a renewable energy source.

WHY USE AN ANAEROBIC DIGESTER COVER?

When done correctly, installing a gas tight floating cover, creates the ideal environment for natural microbes to break down the waste, producing valuable biogas in the process. An open (aerobic) basin or lagoon is vulnerable to oxygen intrusion, temperature variations, and wind; conditions that degrade digestion efficiency.

A floating biogas collection cover not only helps to keep out oxygen, but also enables enhanced insulation, odor control, and structural integrity, all of which support consistent biogas production across a range of environmental conditions.

KEY FEATURES & BENEFITS OF OUR ANAEROBIC DIGESTER COVERS

  • Can be installed without stopping plant operations
  • Withstand harsh anaerobic conditions
  • Maintain basin temperatures to optimal levels for anaerobic digestion
  • Capture and utilize valuable methane
  • Reduce odors and greenhouse gas emissions
  • Buoyant enough to support foot traffic
  • Hatches provide access to in-basin equipment
  • Guides rainwater to sumps for removal
  • Long lifetime under harsh conditions
