Traditionally, landfills have been covered with six inches of compressed soil each day. The problem is soil takes up a lot of space. The fact that space is such a precious commodity in many landfills, a lot of them have opted to use a landfill cover. The covers are quite effective at covering up trash and at the same time takes up less than half an inch of space.
